One of my favorite aspects of working with startups is promoting people into Leadership positions.
I have interviewed hundreds of people (literally) for Management roles. Here are the four questions I always ask, to help identify if Leadership is right for them.
+ in this post I describe one of my favorite places in the world. Fushimi Inari in the hills of Kyoto.
Time Travel
Incredible re-finished footage of daily life in Tokyo in the early 20th century.
Book of the Week
It's a been a while since I've read a good old fashioned Silicon Valley memoir. This story, by the CFO and early Exec at Pixar, Laurence Levy, tells the story of the company's rise from a small, somewhat rudderless startup, through the release of Toy Story, the IPO and eventual sale to Disney.
Reading it made me miss the earlier days of the Valley, when everyone expected their startup to fail, but they trudged on anyway with passion and a desire to do things "their way."
Numbers of the Week
The results of this survey (from the non-partisan Pew Research Center) provide an interesting backdrop in advance of today's debate.
Song of the Week
Killer re-mix of this track from Spoon's 2014 album They Want My Soul. The rough drums and somber piano chords accentuate the angst in the lyrics.
"...I came home last night, I had no good news..."
