Life is a Mix Tape - Pete's Newsletter - Issue #12
Book of the Week
Love Is a Mix Tape was on my to-read list for a long time. It is an endearing memoir by that goofy guy who used to be in every MTV/VH1 Behind the Music episode. For fans of 90s music and sad love stories.
Product of the Week
The brain is similar to a constantly running machine and its thoughts are like heat. It can get over-heated without an outlet, such as fulfilling work, exercise, conversation, creative projects, and/or yelling at the wall about the idiocy of Congress.
Its heat (thoughts) can damage the brain, float off its surface aimlessly, or be converted into action and new ideas.
To help manage the heat and perhaps capture productive thoughts - I have found Day One Journal to be the best journaling App (among many available). It is two clean taps from iPhone home screen to starting a new entry and the design throughout is intuitive and frictionless.
Give it a try, there is a very good free version.
Music of the Week
Here are a few songs that kept me sane during a 5 hour bus ride along dirt roads as we headed south down the Nicoya Peninsula to our current location, the town of Santa Teresa. The dramamine helped as well.
If you want to start with one song..
So Good At Being in Trouble, a song by Unknown Mortal Orchestra on Spotify

New Blog Post
Here is the latest post from our summer in Europe, highlighting our time in Burgundy and Paris.
We particularly liked Dijon. When traveling, it can be hard to find the right small/medium towns to visit. Many of them found online (and seen in pictures on Instagram) have fully given way to tourism, so are somewhat wack and only warrant a day trip.
Dijon is a perfect mid-sized city in the middle of a unique and refined region of France.
Preview of Next Week
Next week I will be sending out my favorite songs of 2017. Until then, check out last year's list. Featuring songs from Jeff Rosenstock, Hamilton Leithauser and believe it or not.. The Monkees.
