Some choice photos from our summer in Europe.

This is the earliest known original color film of London, taken in 1924 during the breathless time period between the wars, and before the Blitz.

I enjoyed this interview with Vice President Biden from Nick Clegg, the former Deputy Prime Minister of the UK.
Biden speaks directly to the citizens of the US and UK, reminding us what actually makes America great.
"It’s not the example of our power, it’s the power of our example."
The entire podcast is a reminder of what strong American leadership sounds like.

This fascinating post shares the history of Ramen, which appeared in postwar Tokyo due to a confluence of Chinese cuisine, food rationing and American wheat imports.
In this article, NPR shares the remarkable story of "hunger stones" appearing in Northern Europe— a deadly omen.
The climate is changing in Europe and this summer saw intense heat paired with a significant drought. The drought was so abnormal that it exposed these historic stones, carved over the centuries to signify dark days.
One of the stones on the banks of the Elbe is carved with the words "Wenn du mich siehst, dann weine": "If you see me, weep."
Songs of the Week
Singer song-writer Sean McMahon captures the feeling of melancholy and uncertainty that many feel on this day, the eighteen anniversary of 9/11.
He captures the moment as he croons "I spilled my colors onto the floor, like a new born babe unto the earth.. I thought that it was righteous.."
His emotion is familiar—a desire to do the right thing, but confusion as to what that is— combined with a creeping sense that perhaps we have been led astray.
This track by Lord Huron would be best with Roy Orbison on vocals, but wouldn't everything? It sounds like regret, on a rainy day, in the American South.
