On the brink - Pete's Newsletter - Issue #9
Video of the Week
Last week, after seeing a tweet from my buddy Spencer, I thought back, for the first time, to what I was doing the morning of September 11th, 2001.
I was a 19 year old junior at the University of Delaware following my normal morning routine - eating a bowl of cereal and watching a re-run of The Wonder Years. It was a great way to start the day.
During the commercial break, I flipped the channel, came across the news, and watched the first tower fall. My first thought was to wake up my neighbors across the street, because some of them were from New York.
Also last week, and for the first time, I came across the following clip and it brought me back to America and that fall.
Book of the Week
It can be easy to forget there are real people with families, friends, dreams and fears behind the headlines of refugees and middle-east violence. Exit West tells the story of two of these people.
The author shares a fast-paced view into a modern city on the brink, breaking apart in a civil war. There is a sci-fi twist, as portals into other worlds begin to open throughout the city.
I am 50% of the way through and am excited to see how it ends.
Highly recommended.
Product of the Week
Type in any address in NYC and travel back to that block in the 80s. Built using archived photos from the NYC Dept. of Finance. Very cool.
