Simplicity
Here is a simple switch that will increase the likelihood of hitting your individual, team, and company goals.
Get rid of the “s”
If your startup has three big goals for the quarter, prioritize them, turn each into a monthly goal and then knock them out one at a time.
If a person on your team has two big individual developmental goals for the month, prioritize them, and focus like hell on the first one until accomplished— and only then—move on to the second goal.
There are three key advantages to this approach.
1) It forces you to prioritize your goals upfront and decide which will have the largest impact.
2) The time to complete a task expands to the time you give it. With this approach, you’ll complete your most important goals more quickly.
3) By having one goal at a time, you can focus all your efforts against achieving it versus spreading your energy thinly like peanut butter across the slice of bread that is your life. When you wake up each morning, you know exactly what to work on.
Simplicity breeds confidence. Simplify your goal setting, and you will tackle them more confidently.
